Day of the Dead is a holiday celebrated in central and southern Mexico during November 1 & 2.
They believe that the gates of heaven are opened at midnight on October 31 for a couple days, and the spirits of the deceased are allowed to reunite with their families to enjoy the festivities that are prepared for them.
This is a celebration and a ceremony to honor ourself and all who have come before us. We are going to gather in community to celebrate our life and our deceased loved ones (pets included).
As a community we will co-create a large altar in memory of our loved one(s) who have passed. This altar can be adorned with offerings of pan de muerto, flowers, sugar skulls, pictures, fruit, candles, and/or a shot of alcohol. These offerings on the altar are for the spirit of the dead to enjoy.
If you are able to join please bring pictures and/or an item to put on the altar that represents the loved one(s) you want to honor. For an example, if your grandma loved to drink vodka every night, then a small bottle of vodka would be a great contribution for our altar. If your mother loved roses, then a bouquet of roses would be appropriate to bring. Think of things that will invoke your loved one, that he/she loved.
Once our altar is built we will immerse ourself in ceremony and celebration.
We will be at Kathryn's yurt, so if you do not have the address please RSVP and I will send it to you.
Donations appreciated.
